SOS Parque Recreativo Omar, Panama

The growth rate of the users of Parque Omar continues to increase, in the middle of the summer, with the kids on vacation and with an ideal climate, many people go to play and walk in it and put pressure on the facilities; but the facilities are the same

Christmas passed and the only new lights that illuminated Parque Omar have disappeared. Gone are the music, the images, the booths with staff, the mechanical amusement park and the little lights that illuminated, in a playful way, some of the darkest areas of the park. Now only the abandoned booths remain, the frozen lake made of plastic material, where figures of young skaters showed a somewhat strange image for us, and the darkness. We return to the reality of Parque Omar.

Trash everywhere, long dark roads, vampires in the trees of public areas, congested parking lots, a soccer field that can no longer be used, large green areas good only to watch the children play soccer, poorly attended tree areas, entrances poorly defined, shortage of toilets and water for the public, many regular users unhappy with the facilities and people mumbling SOS

The growth rate of the users of Parque Omar continues to increase, in the middle of the summer, with the kids on vacation and with an ideal climate, many people go to play and walk in it and put pressure on the facilities; but the facilities are the same, they have not improved, they have only been made up to make us believe that they are in better condition. But the reality is that the facilities exhibit S.O.S. on all sides.

The euphoria of Christmas passed, Mrs. Mingtoy Giro did a great decorative work, but now she is on something else. He's working for the carnivals. He has not left, apparently, anyone in charge of the park, nor a plan to follow and, at this moment, is when it is most necessary to have a person in charge of carrying out a plan. And the whole park seems to whisper S.O.S.

The Omar Torrijos Foundation received some time ago 5.6 hectares of land in Amador in order to build the new Omar Park. Many of us were surprised by this news, but when we observed that a large percentage of the 56 hectares of the "original" Omar park only serve to see the grass grow, that most of the 20 thousand monthly users no longer recreate as before in the " original "Omar park and that the neighbors continue to grow in huge new buildings with many children in strollers who, along with their nannies, cry among other things, SOS

The Omar Recreation Park needs a strategic plan and a foundation to manage it. Needs new lighting that works during the early morning and evening hours on the rickety old roads; you need to repair and make new illuminated paths to travel; it needs new parks and squares; needs new entrances with many parking lots; needs new public facilities; It needs ecological paths to show us its biodiversity and the Ecological Police to teach us how to take care of that biodiversity.

It needs biology students and volunteers for its maintenance; you need to improve your drainage, sewerage and water management systems; you need to renovate old facilities and you need resources to start it up.

In short, he needs the family of President Torrijos to give him more than a skilled administrator; needs a long-term vision of Parque Omar, so that all of us stop asking from the four winds, S.O.S.
