I use this phrase, corresponding to that detestable character in the history of humanity called Goebbels to begin the article, because it is the feeling I have when such a serious and important company, such as the energy multinational Repsol-YPF, tries to cover up a lie by using another lie.

"Lie, lie, that in the end something will remain"

I use this phrase, corresponding to that detestable character in the history of humanity called Goebbels to begin the article, because it is the feeling I have when such a serious and important company, such as the energy multinational Repsol-YPF, tries to cover up a lie by using another lie.

What we are witnessing these days was one of the many signs that we encounter every day in any part of the planet. What signs am I talking about? From the abyss that the insistence of continuing anchored to the production and consumption of fossil fuels (oil and gas) holds for civilization.

The premise of Repsol-YPF's announcement is to change its reserve measurement system, from now on only proven reserves will be counted, which is equivalent to a 25% reduction in its world reserves (41% of those available in our country). Who is in charge of auditing the large energy companies? Themselves? How is it that you can work with estimates?

The politically correct "Negative review" of the company, it is nothing more than a formal way of facing your past lies. Both its accounting books, as well as the supposed audits carried out, calculated the estimates of future reserves (possible and probable) within the general total of its proven reserves, which would be available, supposedly, until the year 2040 ... the announcement of the cut in 25 % of reserves would completely change the landscape to a maximum availability in 2019. How can an energy company work with a false premise, and then cut no less than 50% of its services in Bolivia and Argentina overnight? tomorrow? The blame for the reason for this measure, according to the company, would lie with its victims: both the new Bolivian government that aspires to create a hydrocarbon law to control its gas reserves, along with the unwillingness to reinvest in Argentina, where its concession term expires relatively soon (in 2017).

Ladies and gentlemen, what we are witnessing here is the correct prediction, regarding the world zenith of non-renewable energy production, made in 1956 by the North American geophysicist Hubbert… come true. According to it, we reached the end of "Cheap oil", and therefore, at the beginning of a new era of global political-financial crisis for the appropriation of its last resources (whose initial kick is witnessed in the invasion in Iraq, and the struggles in the Caspian Sea). The production curve has reached its maximum peak and will decrease rapidly in the coming years. This truth is hidden by the multinational energy companies that operate in the country, because they would see their profits in danger (Repsol-YPF has been rated negatively by the main international indicator agents, and their shares fell flat on the Madrid and Buenos Aires stock exchanges Aires; this could mean a loss to the company close to 170 billion dollars a year), and it is banned at the same time by the national government, for being complicit in the anti-environmentally genocidal actions of the energy oligopoly.

The truth is that: the oil peak has started in Argentina a few years ago, that the country will have to go from being a producer of oil and gas, to being a net importer in the coming years. What does this mean? That the growing inflation that we are enduring, due to the strong increase in the international price of a barrel of crude oil (currently at US $ 66.31 in New York), could accelerate even more.

We are in the middle of this situation, for 200 years we have been educated in a system of relationships based on the use and abuse of fossil fuels, without being aware of the climate change that this causes, and we only partially remember it when we feel in our skins to Hurricane Katrina, or to the droughts in the Pampean area, or the floods in Tucumán and Santa Fe, to give a couple of examples ... While we see the price of a barrel of crude surprised every day breaking a new record in the New York stock market ( bulging the pockets of who knows what tycoon on duty), we are called, whimsically, "environmentalists", "antinuclear", "globalphobic", and others, when in reality we fight for life, in contrast to those who trade with death .

It is time that we ask ourselves whether these signals (both ecological and economic) are not enough to raise awareness of the need for a national development plan urgent renewable energy; not only for being clean and durable, but also for the economic and social sustainability that would enable the country. Because if, as inhabitants of this planet, we do not conceive an alternative plan, when fossil fuels run out, everything will end behind them ...

… And there is nothing that the Repsol-YPF solidarity foundation will be able to do for us.
