Acne begins when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil and dead cells. I am an adult and I still have acne! There are many factors that contribute to acne, such as genetics, diet, stress, hormonal changes, and infections. My parents never had a lot of acne so I can only attribute mine to diet, stress, and hormones.

If you have sensitive skin like I do, you need to be careful around makeup and skincare products that contain ingredients that can cause acne. These home remedies for acne are much better for your skin.

How does acne occur?

On your face, each pore is connected to a sebaceous gland, which produces an oily substance called sebum. The extra sebum can clog pores, causing the growth of a bacterium known as Propionibacterium acnes or P. acnes.

When you're stressed or ill, your white blood cells attack bacteria-related cells in your skin, causing skin inflammation and acne. Some cases of acne are more serious than others, but common symptoms include whiteheads, whiteheads, and pimples.

Diet for acne prevention

The role of diet is somewhat controversial with regards to acne control. For example, the great chocolate dilemma: does eating it cause acne? - It has never really been resolved. However, given the role vitamins and minerals play in preventing and curing acne, it makes sense that a healthy diet is important in managing this condition. For example:

  • Experts recommend cutting back on dairy products, especially milk, as the hormones and trans fatty acids it contains can make acne worse.
  • Refined sugar is said to exacerbate acne. Sources point to the effect of sugar on the body's insulin production and the connection between effective sugar metabolism and skin health. Studies have shown an improvement in acne when patients received insulin injections. Since most of us cannot inject insulin, nor is this advisable for non-diabetics, it makes more sense to cut down on refined sugar and the increased need for insulin that it leads to.
  • Fresh, whole foods are involved in treating acne. Processed foods often contain artificial colors and preservatives, which have been shown to affect hormone levels in the human body. Given the role of hormones in acne, it makes sense to avoid such artificial substances.

Natural and / or Homemade Cleaners

Helping heal acne also means applying treatments to the face. Sulfur-containing soaps and cleaners can help a lot, and are available at many natural health stores. Here are some homemade options too:

Mix 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt with 1 teaspoon of raw honey. Apply this to your face as a cleanser or to cleanse the skin and massage gently. Let it act as long as possible, up to 15 minutes. Then rinse with lukewarm water. Yogurt and honey help balance bacterial activity on the skin.

Grind rolled oats in your blender until they turn into a fine powder. Mix oatmeal with enough water to make a paste and apply to problem areas. Let it act a little, then rinse. Alternatively, you can mix the oatmeal with plain yogurt.

Aloe vera

These beautiful green succulents have many uses. If you own an aloe plant you have a valuable treasure, break the tip of a leaf and squeeze the juice on the skin that has been burned in the sun. Rub the gel on itchy skin to begin the healing process of bringing moisture back.

Use a natural scrub

Mix finely ground almonds with honey and gently rub all over your face and rough skin spots. Continue for about 15 minutes with a warm washcloth and then rinse. This can help remove excess oil from your face.

Apple cider vinegar

It is acidic and can reduce shine and the amount of oil on the face when used as an astringent. Pour some on a cotton ball and wipe all the oily areas on your face.
