Guava is a fruit tree that grows wild in southern Brazil and northern Uruguay, but is cultivated in New Zealand and the United States for the commercialization of the fruit. Its scientific name is Psidium guajava and it belongs to the Myrtaceae family, which has more than three thousand species.

It is an evergreen tree, which can reach five meters in height. It begins to bear fruit after four or five years of planting. In Uruguay, fruits appear from February to May. It is a tree resistant to different climatic conditions, it can be planted in both cold and tropical areas, and it tolerates both dry and humid soils.

The guava fruit weighs about one hundred grams, it is oval or round in shape, its skin is green and rigid that turns yellowish and soft when ripe. The pulp is white and is the edible part.

It can be consumed as raw fruit, in smoothies or salads, it has a pleasant taste, but the most widespread form of consumption in our country is guava sweet, probably due to the difficulty of finding fresh fruits for sale. If you do not have a tree at home or an acquaintance who does, it is practically impossible to find them.

Properties

It is rich in water, iodine and vitamin C. It has a concentration of vitamin C six times that of an orange. It also has vitamin B and vitamin A in smaller amounts, and contains significant amounts of fiber, which helps digestion, with a mild laxative effect.

Medical uses

Guava is a fruit that stands out for its delicious aroma and penetrating flavor. However, from the tree of this fruit, the guava, we can use its leaves thanks to its excellent healing properties. In particular, they stand out for their high content of antioxidants (carotenoids, flavonoids and polyphenols).

Guava leaf tea is very beneficial for multiple disorders:

1. Tea

We can drink guava leaf tea regularly to prevent excessive vaginal discharge and, at the same time, improve other possible health disorders. As we have seen, this decoction has many medicinal properties.

As an alternative, we could also take it in supplement form, in capsules or tablets.

Ingredients

  • 2 fresh or dried guava leaves (5 g)
  • 1 glass of water (200 ml)

Preparation

  • First, bring the water to a boil in a saucepan and add the guava leaves.
  • Cook for 10 minutes and turn off the heat.
  • Finally, let it rest for 5 minutes and sweeten to taste, ideally with stevia or honey.
  • Take on an empty stomach and outside of meals.

2. Washes

On a topical level, we can choose to wash ourselves with the decoction of guava leaf. In fact, the intimate area is very delicate and the majority of hygiene products on the market should not be abused.

If you look closely, almost all of them have preservatives and sulfates among their components, which can affect us in the short and long term. We must use soft natural products that do not damage the intimate pH.

Guava tea washes can help us keep the area clean and infection-free without the need to use soaps or other products. For this we will use sterile gauze and we will perform them every day. It is always recommended to rinse with plenty of water.

  • 2 glasses of water (400 ml)

Preparation

  • First, bring the water to a boil and cook the guava leaves for 15 minutes.
  • Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Use when the decoction is warm or cold.

3. Steam baths

Steam baths in the intimate area are an ancient method that women used with all kinds of medicinal plants, depending on the problem they wanted to treat.

We must pay close attention not to burn ourselves while doing steam baths. In addition, afterwards it must be dried well and not keep the vaginal area wet as this encourages the growth of fungi and bacteria.

Ingredients

  • 10 fresh or dried guava leaves (25 g)
  • 5 glasses of water (1 liter)

Preparation and application

  • Boil the water with the guava leaves for 15 minutes.
  • Then turn off the heat and remove the casserole. We can use the same casserole or another container.
  • We have to stand on top of the pot, at a distance of at least 30 centimeters, with our legs spread and without our underwear. In this way, the vapors arrive directly, with a high temperature, but always without burning us.
  • We can cover ourselves with towels to keep warm.
  • Stay for 15 minutes. Perform 3 times a week.
