The Tamiya F-84G, and now the Pro-Modeler F-84G, being the current definitive 1/48th scale kits of the subject, are worthy subjects of aftermarket decals. Experts Choice has released (at the time of this writting) three decal sheets for these kits. This is their first F-84 sheet.
The instruction sheet with these Experts Choice decals from Bare Metal Foil state they are designed to fit both the Tamiya and the Pro-Modeler 1/48th scale Thunderjet kits. The kits, as currently released, are F-84Gs, therefore, if these decals are used, the model must be backdated to E-model specs (presuming you want to correctly represent the model in any of these colors). The sheet references that the slotted speed brake must be used in place of the "swiss cheese" speed brake which is funished with both the Tamiya and Pro-Modeler kits. Where to get this part? After market detail sets from Eduard or Cutting Edge, or you can make your own. Or, considering it appears Pro-Modeler plans to release an E-model Thunderjet (based on their parts "breakout" on their G-model kit), you could wait for that kit. And wait? See the "Accessories" "T-jet" section on this site for reviews of the detail sets. The two sheets include the decals necessary to model one of four Air National Guard aircraft which were "federalized" for use in Korea until USAF aircraft and personnel were available to replace them. They are: F-84E-15-RE #49-2360, 182nd FBS, 136th FBW, 5th AF, Taegu AB, Korea, January 1952; F-84E-25-RE #51-496, 196th FBS, 116th FBW, 5th AF, Misawa AB, Japan, June 1952; F-84E-25-RE #51-512, 159th FBS, 116th FBW, 5th AF, Misawa, Japan, January 1952; F-84E-25-RE #51-542, 111FBS, 136th FBW, 5th AF, Taegu AB, Korea, January 1952. Aircraft #49-2360 "Miss Jacque II" was the first F-84 in Korea to reach the 1000 hour mark, and received a very colorful scheme to commemorate the occasion. Great sheets, these, and they even include "bonus emblems" for a display base or coffee cup!
Experts Choice ANG F-84Es in Korea decal sheet set.
This Experts Choice decal set is priced at $11.95 for two sheets, compared to $6.95 for the AeroMaster sets which include two sheets. A little more pricey perhaps, but still a solid 10, especially if they do fit the Pro-Modeler kit.
