F-84F Thunderstreak and RF-84F Thunderflash in Belgium

Retail price: $11.50

Daco Products has released this set of decals, presumably for the 1/48th scale Heller F/RF-84F kits, for F-84F and RF-84F aircraft in the "Vietnam" camouflage schemes. The same subjects are available for 72nd scale on sheet D7233. I purchased this decal set by mail order from Meteor Productions; however, they recently informed me they no longer carry the Daco Products line.

This is a "one-sheet" set with a second smaller sheet that is provided as corrections to the main sheet. The subjects of the sheet are implied, from the artwork, to be F-84F FU-156 of 1 Sqn, F-84F FU-103 of 2 Sqn, and RF-84F FR-17 of 42 Sqn. However, this sheet has some white generic numbers to enable the modeler to create any number in the FU- or FR- series. Also, the sheet hints that other aircraft numbers are appropriate to model as it states "Thunderstreaks FU-181 till FU-197 are equipped with a shorter type of tail (30 cm shorter)." The Heller F-84F kit has a shorter tail than does the Monogram kit. However, there are other substantial differences in the kits, so I make no claims as to which is correct to use for these various subjects. Two other decal sheets from Daco are complimentary to this set. They are D4834/D7234 with both black and white squadron codes and serial numbers, and D4836/D7236 with squadron colors markings.

These are exceptional decals. They are as finely printed as any I've seen. The second sheet provides corrections to several data and stencil decals that are incorrect on the main sheet. This sheet contains numerous data and stencil decals -- over 140 by my count.

The instruction sheet is provided in color with notes pertaining to the correct FS numbers for the paint schemes illustrated. Also, the notes list the years the "Vietnam" camouflage scheme was used by Belgium.

I consider these Daco Products decals to be among the best I've seen. And, as the vendor had the courtesy to provide a second correction sheet rather than be content to provide only the incorrect decals on the main sheet, I consider these fairly priced at $11.50.
