The wonders of

Characteristics of turmeric, the main ingredient in golden milk

The "golden" milk is the most healing food that exists on the face of the earth, because it contains an ingredient with hundreds of benefits for the human body: turmeric. It is a spice that comes from India and has been used for more than 4 thousand years in Asia, for medicinal purposes, but also as a coloring and seasoning.

Turmeric has a myriad of properties and therefore it is recommended in various diseases and ailments. Just to name a few: for the spine, to lubricate joints and bones and making them more flexible, to purify the blood, to eliminate calcium deposits from the body, as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, better in general all organs and is ideal for suffering from arthritis, tendon or joint pain. In turn, turmeric has external healing properties.

Turmeric belongs to the same family as ginger, which grows in China, India, Indonesia, and the surrounding areas. The part that is used is its rhizome, where the coloring matters, called Curcuminoids, are found. It is used as an analgesic, being ideal to relieve pain caused by blows, injuries and bruises. In addition, it stimulates the production of vital energy "Qi".

In the field of Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric is used in the treatments of jaundice, flatulence, menstrual cramps, bloody urine, bruises, bleeding, toothache, colic, chest pain, among others. In turn, it is used topically (externally) to relieve inflammation and various pains.

In the West, this spice has been recognized to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The first is really significant, since it suppresses the production of cortisone in the adrenal gland, which indirectly intervenes in the process. Furthermore, turmeric acts as an inhibitor of the formation of the stimuli involved in inflammation, stabilizing cell membranes. The effects of curcumin are similar to those of cortisone, but the good thing is that it does not produce adverse or secondary reactions. If applied directly to the skin, it will act on nerve endings and will nullify substance P, a neurotransmitter of pain receptors.
