Andalusia has more than 800,000 hectares of organic farming

During her participation in the presentation of BIOCórdoba 2014, which takes place between October 10 and 18, Ana Romero congratulated farmers, ranchers and entrepreneurs in general, who have contributed to Andalusia holding almost all the record figures in this sector, from cultivated hectares to establishments.

In addition to leading the ecological area, Andalusia has more than 3,300 ecological livestock farms and is the first Community in terms of ecological industrial activity, with 1,238 industrial activities, which represents 28.14% of the national total. Likewise, it generates more than 20,000 direct and indirect jobs, the director stressed. "These overwhelming figures are the result of the efforts of men and women, with the support of the Andalusian Government," through different initiatives, including the Andalusian organic farming plans implemented since 2002, the director stressed. Only the II Andalusian Plan for Ecological Agriculture (2007-2013) has allowed, among others, the investment of more than 300 million euros to support ecological productions, help the transformation of products through industries, promote consumption internal ecological products and promote research and control and transparency systems of certification, he stressed.

A tool for sustainability and rural development Currently, the Ministry is working, together with the sector, on the III Andalusian Plan for Ecological Agriculture and Livestock (2014-2020), which will soon be presented to the Andalusian Committee for Ecological Production .

All of this shows that organic production "is one of the most complete tools to face the challenges of sustainability, rural development and climate change", said the general director, who has insisted on the importance of this sector " present and future and its possibilities for exporting and generating employment in the rural world ”.

For all this, he stressed, "from the Junta de Andalucía we consider the main challenges of the sector a priority, among them, achieving commercialization in short channels or the enhancement of organic livestock products, to which we will try to respond with the III Andalusian Plan for Ecological Agriculture and Livestock ”.

BIOCórdoba 2014

BIOCórdoba 2014, organized by the Provincial Council and the Córdoba City Council, the Ecological Value Association (Ecovalia) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, is held between 10 and 18 October.

This event, of particular importance for the sector, will address the main current problems it faces and will contribute to the search for solutions and business through different activities. Among them, some technical conferences on sustainability and ecological agriculture stand out, which will be held next Wednesday, October 15.

On October 14 and 15, schoolchildren between the ages of 10 and 13 from the educational centers of Córdoba will be able to visit the Agricultural Center of the Diputación de Córdoba to see first-hand the facilities, the ornamental plant nursery, as well as the poultry and livestock of autochthonous breeds.

On Thursday, October 16, a round table will be held to discuss urban gardens, their benefits, their scope and their current situation in Andalusia.

That same day, the conference "The keys to success in the marketing of organic food" will also be held, aimed at all professionals working in the production and marketing of food.

In parallel, meetings will be organized between the producers and the assisting purchasing managers.
